A few weeks ago I actually got a request of sorts from someone to write a blog on a specific subject. That was a first for me! Well, a first regarding this blog at any rate. So here I am, being the nice guy that I am, fulfilling that request! I must firstly say that this isn't a review about World of Warcraft, nor is it a review of anything in particular, but rather this is just a post about something that I felt was interesting enough to merit me writing about it! I must warn you in advance that I'm not personally attached to this subject (not at the moment at any rate) so if it lacks details or isn't as in-depth as you might think it will be (sorry Tiff!) then I do apologise. Now, shall we?
World of Warcraft (WoW for short) is a "massively multiplayer online role-playing game" (MMORPG) by Blizzard Entertainment. The game takes place within the Warcraft world of Azeroth, where you create your own character, choosing from one of the many classes and races that the game offers, before you are thrown into an ongoing war between the Alliance and the Horde. There's a lot more to it than that, but that basically sums it up.
All-in-all it's a fantastic game (I used to play it myself but couldn't cope with the time that it sapped from me) and that's probably why it has over 8 million subscribers to date. But I'm not here to talk to you about the game itself, but rather a specific group within the game. The game allows you to band together with friends to achieve far greater feats than you'd be able to achieve alone. Like-minded individuals who fight for the same side as you in the war, on the same server. These groups are called "Guilds", and one of my friends is the Guild Master of the particular Guild that I'll be speaking about. That Guilds name?
"Obstinant Evolution; we make our own hard-modes." - Guild motto.
Obstinant Evolution are currently a 10 person guild on the Arathor-EU World of Warcraft server. The guild was started way back in 2008 and has apparently always been a vibrant guild, and though never achieving the status of "best of the best", they have never been left behind or been the worst guild around. Why? It might have something to do with the fact that sometimes with World of Warcraft it's easy to forget that it is in fact only a game, and some people get far too serious with it - but not Obstinant Evolution.
It's not all about being hardcore online gamers with them, though of course that's part of it (it seems to be with any World of Warcraft players!), a lot of it is nothing more than being a group of friends who enjoy having fun with each other more than being a strict guild who only care about beating raid bosses and finding epic loot. But saying that, they're a dedicated guild that are ready to thrown down when the time comes! With organised raid days twice a week at a specific time, they've got the perfect balance between fun and serious gaming.
I don't know any of the other guild members after than one of the current Guild Masters, the lovely Callula, so I can't really comment about them, but she has been extremely dedicated to running the guild and has put in many hours of hard work. Examples? Well, they have their own Website with lots of relevant information about the guild, raid times and dates, etc. They also have their own Twitter account and Facebook page, both newly introduced so that the guild can better share funny memories, photos and videos of their exploits. And where do these videos come from? Why their YouTube profile of course! A profile with constant updates and videos on raid tactics, beautiful organised to consider all roles within the team for optimum results.
Now although I'm not currently a World of Warcraft player, or a member of this guild, I do follow them on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. I don't do it just to show my support to a friend, but also because I genuinely enjoy watching the videos or seeing the updates! Now I don't know if you play World of Warcraft, and even if you do I don't know if you're on the same server or if their guild is even currently recruiting. However, if you DO enjoy World of Warcraft or even if you just enjoy interesting things, I'm going to post links to all their pages at the end of this blog-post, so take a few minutes out of your day just to check them out!
Oh, and if you do happen to play World of Warcraft and you're on the Arathor-EU server and see a character running around with "Obstinant Evolution" listed above their head and underneath their character name, give them a wave!
